Our VISION - Downtown Ponca City is the HEART
of the community!

This destination district creates pride through the revitalization of its historic buildings and infrastructure; enhances economic prosperity through an environment of thriving retail, dining, and entertainment venues; and improves quality of life through special events and additional housing and guest lodging.

Our MISSION - To serve Ponca City and citizens by promoting quality of life through efforts focused toward economic growth, historical preservation, cultural development and revitalization of the downtown and surrounding area.

Our PHILOSOPHY - The Main Street Program is used as a process through which to achieve the mission statement. The downtown and surrounding area is viewed as the heart and core of the city fostering a sense of community pride and togetherness. It's preservation and revitalization is key to the overall quality of life and success of the town. The downtown area houses the public library, civic center/city hall, the local post office, the YMCA, the mid-high school, the board of education offices, the community theater, Marland's Grand Home, two banks, many attorney's offices and other professional offices in addition to retail space, restaurants, several churches and historical neighborhoods. Therefore, the importance of the downtown area is paramount to the personality and structure of the city.

The Main Street Board of Directors will act as community good will ambassadors sharing a positive outlook and avoid negativism, both in attitude and communication. The board will promote progressive upward direction for the city of Ponca City as a whole in terms of quality of life for its citizens. The board will foster brotherhood and a cooperative spirit between all city groups of which they come in contact becoming a forerunner and role model of effective community action and relationships.

Our APPROACH - The Main Street approach is a comprehensive revitalization process that focuses on all aspects of a commercial district. It successfully integrates a practical management strategy with the physical improvement, addition of and preservation of buildings and public spaces, aggressive promotion and image building and the economic development of the area. The approach is incremental in nature fostering the long-term management of change and growth. It also builds relationships through volunteerism and a sense of ownership of the area within the community.

Our ORGANIZATION - The Ponca City Main Street Organization is composed of one staff member, the executive director. The director is hired by a volunteer Board of Directors. The director (program manager) is responsible for coordinating, facilitating, advocating and communicating the image and vision of the central business district. The volunteer board is nominated by the executive committee and voted on by the membership. The board meets monthly under the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, sets policy and supervised the director and five standing committees.

The Four Points to Success

Ponca City Main Street follows the nationally successful Main Street Four Point Approach. The four area where Main Street volunteers focus their efforts are Organization, Design, Promotions, and Economic Restructuring. Each of these four points are represented by a working committee.
